"Can I use Jobber instead of QuickBooks?" is the wrong question, and the answer is no in both directions. A field service app is not a general ledger, and an accounting app does not dispatch a technician. The real question is whether your business needs the second system yet, and if so, which plan connects them. We read the vendors' pricing pages and sync documentation on October 27, 2026; nothing here comes from a hands-on test.
For whom: a home-service or trade business that already keeps its books in accounting software (most often QuickBooks Online) and wonders whether a field service tool replaces it or adds to it. Not for: choosing between accounting packages, which this site does not cover.
Who does what
| Job | Field service software | Accounting software |
|---|---|---|
| Requests, scheduling, dispatch | Yes | No |
| Quotes or estimates | Yes | QuickBooks Online: yes (estimates, customer acceptance, conversion to invoices) |
| Job notes, photos, checklists on site | Yes | No |
| Invoices and card payments in the field | Yes | Invoices yes, field workflow no |
| General ledger, bank reconciliation | Not in the field service plans compared here | Yes |
| Sales tax returns, year-end reports for the accountant | No | Yes |
The overlap is estimates and invoices: Intuit documents creating estimates in QuickBooks Online, recording a customer's acceptance and converting the estimate to an invoice. That is why a solo operator can live in accounting software alone, and why a business running both must decide which system issues the estimate and the invoice, so each flows from one to the other only once. What accounting software does not do is schedule and dispatch people.
Which plans sync
| Tool | Plan that includes the QuickBooks Online connection | Users included | Price billed annually |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jobber | Connect (also Grow and Plus); not on Core | Connect for 1 user or for 5 users | $99 a month for Connect with 1 user, $149 with 5 users, after a 12-month introductory price (Core is $29) |
| Housecall Pro | Its pricing page lists QuickBooks Online ("import your existing QuickBooks data") under Essentials and Max, not Basic | 5 on Essentials | $149 a month for Essentials (Basic is $59) |
So "both" is also a plan decision: on either tool, connecting your books means skipping the entry plan. Both vendors' help documentation describes their current sync as running mainly one way, from the field app into QuickBooks Online: invoices, payments and new customers go across. Jobber's description is for its new QuickBooks integration, which it says is being rolled out to select accounts (its older integration works differently), so confirm which one your account has; in the new one, paid status does not come back; Housecall Pro says estimates do not push, price book edits made in QuickBooks do not sync back, and payments entered only in QuickBooks have to be pulled in manually. Read the documentation before the first sync and decide which system owns customers and items.
Our pick
Run both once there is a crew or a bookkeeper, and start with Jobber Connect. Of the two plans compared here, it has the lower single-user annual list price with the QuickBooks Online sync, $99 a month for one user, and at five users it costs the same $149 as Housecall Pro Essentials. It keeps invoicing in the field while the books stay in accounting software.
- Pick Housecall Pro Essentials instead if you already prefer Housecall Pro for the field work; at five users the published annual prices match.
- Accounting software alone is enough for a solo operator who sends a handful of invoices a week and does not schedule anyone else.
- The field service plans compared here do not keep the books: your accountant still needs a ledger. The exception is a vendor's own accounting add-on: Housecall Pro sells Housecall Pro Accounting, which it describes as replacing your accounting software with an integrated bookkeeping tool and a dedicated bookkeeping team, priced on a call. That is a different purchase from Essentials or Max plus the QuickBooks sync.
For the integration details, see field service software with QuickBooks Online.
